3 People Your Tech Team Needs

Tech.jpg

Tech teams are no doubt comprised of people with different skills sets. Some of the people on our teams are natural leaders, others may work best when given specific instructions or directions, and then there are those who can adapt to any role that the situation may call for. That being said, there are 3 people who will help your tech team thrive exponentially.

A Visionary

Visionaries see, and understand, the possibilities of what can be before it’s actualized. One of the benefits of having a visionary on your team is that they can envision what the ministry can become. While the visionary of the team may not always be the leader, the leader definitely needs to have a vision for how technology and digital platforms can be used to enhance the online and in-person worship experience. Visionaries dream without dollars and they find a way to take the ministry to the next level in spite of the budget (although budget is important).

An Innovator

Innovators differ from visionaries in that they are always on the hunt for new methods and innovative ways that they can use technology and digital platforms for maximum impact. Innovators are a rare gem on a tech team because they go against the grain of complacency and fight hard against the mundane. They help to keep your tech team on the cutting edge. They are not interested in changing methods and programs for the sake of changing them, their primary interest (all things being considered) is to move the ministry forward. Identify who the innovators are on your team and INVEST in them! Support them. Give them a little wiggle in the budget to explore the latest technology. You’ll thank yourself later.

A Creative

Creatives are equally important because they bring the vision to life. While visionaries see and innovators flesh out new and exciting ideas, the creatives are the implementors. They are your graphic designers, photographers, social media specialists, videographers, video editors, camera operators, etc. Without creatives, your mission may not go beyond the four walls of the church. And, if you’re reading this blog, I’m assuming that you believe in the power of having a digital presence as a church, ministry, or organization. Creatives are responsible for ensuring that you always have a digital presence.

It's likely that your tech team is already staffed with these individuals and you've identified who's who. If so, then great! Be sure to use them to their full potential. If you have not already identified these individuals on your team, or your team lacks these key individuals, here are three things that you may want to do to get your tech team moving in the right direction.

Recruit - People are often waiting to be asked to serve. It doesn't matter how many appeals you make on Sundays or on social media, some people won't sign-up to help your team or ministry until you personally ask them.

Train - Training will be essential not just for skill sake, but for momentum sake. The mission and ministry can only go as far as the team can take it. Train often and train well. Train some of your current staff to think outside of the box. Employ them to come up with creative ways to help the ministry/team run more efficiently and effectively.

Release - Finally, release your team to be creative and innovative and trust them to carry out the mission!
